Date of Birth Evidence
We are required to collect date of birth evidence for each child when they start with us. Please bring in a birth certificate or passport so we can photocopy them.
If neither of these is available, please see Pam as alternatives can be accepted.
Please inform a member of staff should your child be absent from Pre-school.
You can phone 01803 834 449 before 9am and leave a message or call after 9am to speak to a member of staff.
We are required to record absences and reasons for absence in line with our Attendance and Safeguarding Policies, and for Funding audit purposes.
If your child is unable to attend on your booked day, we are happy to swap days if we have space.
Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
We are an Ofsted Registered Pre-school and follow the Early Years Foundation Stage, to offer a varied and interesting curriculum for our children.
Our day is organised to allow structured activities and learning opportunities, with plenty of time for playing, exploring, and being with your friends.
Dartmouth Pre-school is run by a voluntary Committee mainly comprised of parents and past-parents of children attending.
We encourage all parents to consider joining the Committee, where there is the opportunity to get involved with the business side of running a charity pre-school, or fundraising for future projects.
There are lots of ways you can contribute, and it can be an exciting and rewarding experience.
Our Safeguarding Designated Officer is Pam Reeves.
Safeguarding at Dartmouth Pre-school underpins everything we do. All members of staff, students and volunteers have been vetted at recruitment stage, hold a valid DBS certificate, and undertake regular training to ensure they have up to date knowledge regarding safeguarding.
All Committee members hold valid DBS certificates.
Your child will be assigned a key person, who will be your main contact at the pre-school. They will help to settle your child into the new setting, and to build a trusting, caring relationship with them. They will also be able to ensure that learning and play opportunities are planned into the day that will interest and stimulate your child.
After a few weeks, we sometimes find that children develop a bond with a different member of staff, and in this case we will change the key person if necessary. However, one of our strengths is that we all get to know the children well, and all staff work with, observe and have fun with all the children.
Tapestry On-line Learning Journey
We use an interactive online learning journey (Tapestry) to record observations, assessments, progress, photographs, videos and each child’s learning experiences at the setting. Tapestry provides a safe and secure interactive learning journey that enables parents to log on at any time and see what their child has been learning.
Each parent will have their own personal log in and will be able to access their child’s Tapestry from their computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. Each parent is asked to sign a form undertaking to protect images which appear on Tapestry, and not share them on social networking sites.
At Dartmouth Pre-school we like to offer a variety of healthy choices for snack each morning. We regularly offer fruit, rice cakes and crackers.
Snack time also offers educational opportunities such as making sandwiches, decorating biscuits or cakes, or creating our own pizzas etc.
We offer milk or water to drink.
Children enjoy messy play, and it takes place every day in one form or another, from painting, cooking and water play to mud pies and gardening. Aprons only cover so much so please send your child to pre-school in clothes that can stand a little dirt, with a named spare set of clothes – just in case.
We go outside every day, unless the weather is particularly bad, so please provide outdoor kit appropriate to the weather, ie, named sun cream and sun hat, or a warm coat for the winter months. We can store them here if you wish to leave them.
